Cannot get connected using FTP on a Directv series 2 unit

I have upgraded with PTVnet / Instantcake and the Directv system is working great.  But for the life of me I cannot use Filezilla or Smartftp to connect to this thing, it will connect for a second and then disconnect. I can use network magic and see the DVR recorder with an IP of 192.168.1.10 but cannot get any further than this.  I have been using the instructions for Tytools and it seems straight forward but again I cannot get the tserver stuff loaded because of the ftp thing.  I have checked my router to make sure it should pass through the firewall, I have turned off my antivirus.  ANYONE ???????

I have found that occasionaly

I have found that occasionaly I need to re-boot my router or my Directv box to connect to FTP.

Other times, when I can not reach it using Smartftp, it is still reachable by using ftp address from the command line in Windows XP.

The command line version of ftp is not that hard to use:

1. use cd your_directory before you start ftp, to change to the directory on your PC where the file you want to transfer is located.

2. after you have connected via ftp, use cd destination_directory to change to the directory on your Directv box where you want your file be transferred.

3. use binary to make sure that ftp transfers files with no changes.

4. use put file_name to transfer the file to the Directv box.

5. use ls to make sure that the file is now found on the Directv box.

6. use quit to end the ftp session .
