Since you would have to read the thread to perform the upgrade anyway....

I shouldn't have to repost information, especially since the information is in the thread I linked above. If you recently downloaded InstantCake for the HR10-250, you'll already have the slices anyway, and won't need to make a Daily Call to perform the upgrade.

To save you some time:

If you do not have the
6.3a slices, you can force a Daily Call to get them:

  1. In telnet, cp /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
    /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.orig
(this makes a backup of the file). If you can't
write the file, type rootwrite to make the filesystem read/write.
  2. Locate /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit in SmartFTP.
Right-click on it, and choose Edit. In Win32Pad, Edit > Goto Line # (enter
    532).
  3. Change export DEBUG_BOARD=false to export
    DEBUG_BOARD=true
(instructions at TCF indicated commenting out some lines in
rc.sysinit.author as well, but I had no such lines)
  4. Save the file, close Win32Pad and SmartFTP,
and reboot your TiVo (reboot in telnet).
  5. After your TiVo has rebooted, go to Messages and Settings > Settings
    > Phone > Connect to the DVR service now. The next morning, you
will most likely have the 6.3a slices. After you have confirmed you
have them (echo mls /SwSystem | tivosh),
    proceed to the next step.

I have no idea if your drive

I have no idea if your drive already has the slices or not; if it doesn't, you can use the procedure listed above to make a Daily Call. And yes, you'll need to purchase the Slicer if you want to update to 6.3a and keep your networking.

I did purchase the slicer and

I did purchase the slicer and ftp'd it into the var/temp file.  Now im stuck.  Might have to call someone to get me through ths

No, this uses your network to make the call.

As for your other issues, you'll need to post those questions in the PTVupgrade Official forum.
