I installed my 146 Hour Replacement Drive Kit (160GB) w/PTVnet and Tivo Web+ 2 weeks ago. I have a Hughes SD-DVR40 connected wirelessly to my Linksys WRT54G Router using a Buffalo Technology Wireless-G MIMO Performance Ethernet Converter (WLITX4G54HP) and a Linksys Compact USB Network Adapter (USB200M).
I can now connect to my DirecTiVo box using my WEB browser but I still have a couple issues.
1. Is there any way I cam move video's, mpg's, avi's, photos, from my PC to my DVR and view them on my TV??? If so, how would I do this or where could I go to get simplified instructions to do it??
2. Is there any way to move recorded programs from my DVR to my Vista (or XP) Media Center PC and view them on the PC or burn them to DVD?? If so, how would I do this or where could I go to get simplified instructions to do it??
First check out the first link to the dvrplayground post to set up HMO for viewing pictures from you PC onto the Tivo. Second is how to set up so you can watch videos from your PC and watch/convert them to watch on your Tivo. Third is to download, edit, and record onto DVD the shows from your Tivo (Two seperate links.)
Once you have all this running you can also set up MRV which is the best part of having 5 D Tivos in my house. I can watch what is recorded on any of the other D Tivos. Second is I download the movies/shows and either watch on my XP or Vista Laptops then convert to an MP4 format to save/watch the movies on my PSP at work.
RR, Thank you for the info. Sounds like you have things set up the way I am wanting to set my stuff up. I hope I can impose on you for some more assistance. I have downloaded SuperPatch as recommended at the first link you provided. I now have 2 tcl files but don't know what to do with them. Do i somehow need to get them on my DTiVo and run them there? If so, how do I do this? Having grown up with DOS, Batch Files, etc., I am not afraid to try things but I just don't know what I need to run nor how to run things on my DTiVo from a Vista PC! Can you (or anyone) provide me with some more basic instruction as to what I must do next?
Well I have used many sources over the past year or two but one that I found I liked alot was from the link below. I found that my version of Ptvupgrades InstantCake 6.2 did not have osme of the files in the locations/folders that were in the discussions on how and where to put the files in. So I found that the link below worked perfectly for my situation. I used programs for FTP like the site below, Firezilla has worked great. Then I would use Microsoft Telnet without nay issues so far. I know alot of others use quite a few different software programs too though. Like I said the first link below shows visuals and what and where to put the files. Remember when you use the FTP program make sure to set it to BINARY, this will solve many issues down the line.
This site was what realyy helped me get my feet wet with trying to upgrade and hack my DirecTV Tivo. Also check out:
I have found this site to have the best people for support specially when you are a newbie like I am/was whatever. So with all these sites I learned to do all what your trying to do.
Thanx RR. Beginning to get a handle on telnet. Downloaded and installed and ran FileZilla and PuTTY as recommended in the first link of the last message. That link conained exactly the first timer hand holding type walk thru i was needing. everything worked great till i tried to run the superpatch on my DTiVo and got the following message:
superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.1.tcl(C) 05/08/2005 by NutKase, et al - COMMERCIAL USE PROHIBITED

Error: Version 6.2a-01-2-351 is not supported.bash-2.02#bash-2.02#bash-2.02#
Am I out of luck till a new version comes out or do I somehow roll back to another version ??
Okay you need to get the superpatch-62a which is the updated superpatch for the 6.2a update that came out recently. Try this out. I have put another link for this site when the 6.2a update was being downloaded to the D Tivo boxes, read it and then go find the superpatch-62a from dealdatabase if I remember correctly, also try the links from Tivo.coms forums on teh 62a patch. Let me know how it goes.
I donloaded and attempted to install "superpatch-67all-NutKase-1.2" but with the same results.
I also downloaded and attempted to apply a "patch" but my version of "patch" did not accept a "-o" switch so i downloaded a new version of "patch.gz" but I am not sure if I need it or where to locate it on the DTiVo drive. do I need to have it in a specific location to insure it gets used? Is there a specific path? how do I find that path. do I need to list something in a configuration file somewhere? right now I have all superpatch files in the DTivo's "/var/hack/" directory.
Since your machine has already been updated with the 6.2a slices you need the superpatch-6.2a not superpatch-67all. Once I used the slicer to upgrade the 6.2a slices I then re-ran superpatch-67all it said it would not work on the 6.2a slices. I then found the superpatch-6.2a and this worked. All I had to do was to FTP the superpatch-62a (Make sure you have Firezilla set to Binary Mode) to:
Then it should initiate patching the Tivo Apps.
I am trying to play programs that I recorded on my pc from torrents with avi to Play on my Magnavox dvr. I am having a problem and have been told by several people that I just need the right software. I can and do play recorded audio discs I just can't play movies. I don't have TIVO just a DVR. I would appreciate advice on how to get it. I have FFDshow and Roxio and I still can't get it to play right. What am I doing wrong?
Please Help, I have a Time Warner Cable DVR, I have some important news that I recorded and need that news transfer to a DVD. How do I do that I bought a 1394 cord that I was told I would need and hooked it to computer, the computer reconized the DVR but was unable to do any thing. What do I do to get my recorded news off the DVR and on computer to burn into DVD. Thanks so much.
I use TIVO.Download Tivo DeskTop and Pavtube Video Converter, i can convert my .tivo shows to any other format.
