VCR and the DVR complications

Hi, I'm new here, so please bear with me.  In my area, Hamden, Conn., Comcast changed over to digital signalling.  No more analog.  Great, the picture is really sharp, can't deny that.  BUT,  with my old vcrs, I was able to record shows. Now, with this new setup I can't.  I can record with the RECORD button on a show that is on at the moment, but I can't time record them.

Comcast says I have to have a DVR to do time recording, and they want an extra $18 a month for the privilege.  I think that stinks.  Is there anyway to get around this situation?

Hi. I'm new too.

Hi. I'm new too.
I have same problem. I have lots of old VHS tapes but the player is broken and no parts availble to get it fixed. And I can't record my favourite shows on DVD. I know I can simply find them on the internet, but I don't want to turn on my computer when I come home after a long day at work.
